Dipa Karmakar created history by becoming first Indian women gymnast to qualify for Olympics after her stunning performance at final qualifying and test event. She will be the Indian gymnast qualifying for the quadrennial extravaganza after 52 long years. Since the independent of the country only 11 male gymnasts have participated in Olympic but this is the first Indian women to participate in Olympic.
The international Federation of Gymnastics has confirmed that Dipa Karmakar is qualified by official for Rio Games. She has been listed by FIG for 79th gymnast among other individual in women category who have qualified for Rio Olympics.
Dipa, born in eastern part of country Tripura ( Agartala), her father Dulal, was a weightlifting coach. She did not enter into gymnastic by her choice but she was initiated by her father. Dipa has nurture and burned to carve a niches to overcomes different obstacles and she has proved to be only first women to qualified for the 79th Olympic which will be held in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).
She participates in Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, Scotland and clinch Bronze, first Indian women to do so in gymnastic category in CWG. Trained by B.S Nandi and Kaplana Debnath in Agartala where she improved her leaps and bounds.
Dipa also has the distinction of being the highest scorer in the world to have conquered the death feat of 15.100, with 7.000 for difficulty, and 8.000 for execution with 0.1 penalty, Produnova is the Everest of gymnastics. She missed narrowly in Asian Game glory which was held at Inchen, South Korea last year, her bronze has scale her to greater height.
Deepak Kagra, an international referee, said that, she would qualify for Rio Olympic which is very good news for nation. It has been turmoil in country for last few years with election and claiming to be the national federation and campaigning for gymnasts under the Sports Authority of India.
