From CAT topper to a teacher for underprivileged children: Ajinkya Deshmukh’s incredible story

Ajinkya Deshmukh, from Ambarnath, Maharashtra, is not only a computer science graduate from IIT Madras, he is also a 100 percentile scorer in CAT 2011. The IIM Bangalore alumnus now runs a non-profit organization called D4A Education Foundation, which aims to provide quality education to underprivileged children in Bangalore.

The maiden social initiative of D4A is a programme called Pratiyogita, which equips students in government schools to succeed in competitive exams and, in turn, enables these children from low-income backgrounds to achieve greater heights in their career. Last year, about 100 students were selected for 60 days of continuous coaching for the National Means-Cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) exam; 53 of these students bagged ranks in the exam. As reported by Acchi Khabre, Ajinkya wants to take the programme to rural Karnataka in the days to come.

Talking about the future of his initiative, Ajinkya told News Patrolling in an interview, “After achieving this milestone, we want to leverage this programme with the usage of technology and conduct classes going forward. We would provide them with PPTs, conduct audio-visual classes and (use) many more techniques going forward. Exams like GMAT, SAT and others will be the next focus of Pratiyogita.”
